Kyra Becker, MD
UW Professor of Neurology and Neurological Surgery
Dr. Becker is a vascular neurologist with training in stroke and critical care neurology. She is a professor in the Departments of Neurology and Neurological Surgery and director of Vascular Neurology Services at the UW Comprehensive Stroke Center at Harborview Medical Center.
Dr. Becker is actively engaged in research and is interested in how the immune response contributes to brain injury after stroke. She does basic as well as clinical research in this area and is studying ways in which to modify the immune response to improve outcome after stroke.
Dr. Becker earned her bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and her M.D. from Duke University. She did a medical internship followed by a neurology residency and a neurocritical care fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. After spending a year and a half at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Dr. Becker relocated to UW.
She is a fellow of the American Heart Association and is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. She is actively involved with the American Stroke Association and is currently chair of the International Stroke Conference
